IIP-Nominated Student Among Bucky’s Award Winners

In March, rising senior Eden Foster received a Bucky’s Award for Global Citizenship.

The Bucky’s Award for Global Citizenship “is given to an ambitious student in regards to their international engagement.” The Global Citizenship award, which is sponsored by IIP, recognizes a student’s efforts to “increase their awareness of global issues through an internship, a class, or a volunteer project. The chosen student will apply skills and values acquired through their international experience to improve themselves as well as their surrounding community,” according to UW-Madison’s Student Leadership Program website.

Eden virtually interned with Think Pacific, an internship provider which partners with the Fijian government and NGOs to support Fijian government ministries, businesses, charities, and helps implement the Fiji National Development Plan and UN Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition to her Think Pacific experience, Eden was recently awarded a Wisconsin Idea Fellowship to support the work of Aniceta Kiriga and the Tharaka Women’s Welfare Project to lower the prevalence of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and improve health education in the Tharaka region of Kenya.

Eden is majoring in Philosophy, Political Science, and International Studies: Global Security with certificates in African Studies, French, and Global Health.
