In March, senior Angela Kettleson received a Bucky’s Award for Global Citizenship.
The Bucky Award for Global Citizenship is given to an ambitious student in regards to their international engagement. The Global Citizenship award, which is sponsored by IIP, recognizes a student’s efforts to “increase their awareness of global issues and leadership through an internship, a class, or a volunteer project. The chosen student will apply skills and values acquired through their international experience to improve themselves as well as their surrounding community,” according to UW-Madison’s Student Leadership Program website.
Angela has been involved in multiple international experiences throughout her time at UW-Madison. Her freshman year, she served as vice president of a student organization that works to send students abroad on cross-cultural exchanges. While the pandemic changed her ability to travel abroad, she continued to find ways to engage globally, completing a remote internship with a company based in Sydney, Australia during her sophomore year. And to top it off, she studied abroad this past fall in Spain, where she got involved in the community by volunteering as an English tutor and playing on a local soccer team.
Angela has also brought her ideas of global citizenship to campus, participating in the Wisconsin School of Business International Buddy Program and partnering with exchange students to help them get acclimated to Madison, as well as working virtually with a Spanish nonprofit organization this semester.
Angela will be graduating in May with a degree in Management & Human Resources and International Business and a certificate in Sustainability.
